Avalanche Studios Now Hiring for NYC-based AAA Branch
If you’ve ever wanted to get into making video games and live in the NYC area, this might be the time to dust that resume off.
Avalanche Studios, maker of the Just Cause franchise, is opening a branch here in our fair city with the hopes of making a new online-enabled IP. The studio is being run by David Grijns (formerly of Activision and Atari) and this yet-unannounced title will be directed by Roland Lesterlin (formerly of Mindspark Interactive).
“While many publishers and developers are expanding their operations in over-crowded areas such as Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle or relocating their staff to Canada, New York provides us with a diverse talent pool from which to create our next big console title,” said Christofer Sunderberg, head of Avalanche Studios. Mr Grijns added, ”It is an honor to work with Christofer and the incredibly talented team at Avalanche. This is the culmination of a shared and long-held dream. Today we are officially putting New York on the game development map.”
To be fair, this isn’t the first studio to set up shop in New York. Rockstar Games and EA both have offices here, although I’d be lying if I said I knew what went on behind their doors. There was also the now-defunct Kaos Studios, which will still work on Homefront while they are being shut down. But regardless of who was here first, this is a good thing. The games industry, especially the local games industry, has been lagging behind the economic curve and is starting to feel the crunch that gripped the rest of the country a few years ago.
Here is a list of the positions available in New York:
Senior Game Programmer, New York
Senior Systems Programmer, New York
Character Artist, New York
Lead Game Designer, New York
Producer, New York
Lead Graphics Programmer, New York
Artist Concept, New York
You have until August 14th to apply. Well enough time to get your cover letter and resume handy. We wish you the best of the luck!
