Yesterday we had the pleasure to speak to Charlie Knight of Charlie's Games. For those who missed it, you can read our interview with Charlie by clicking HERE. Today, ESG has received the scoop on Charlie's latest game Irukandji. Here's what Charlie Knight had to say about his latest title.
ESG: Tell us about the inspiration behind this exciting new title
Charlie Knight: I suppose the inspiration behind the game is just that i really enjoy playing vertical shooters. I actually started this project about 2 years ago, but ran out of interest and forgot all about it, so if there was aspecific inspiration i can't remember what it was. I found the code again about 3 weeks ago while i was rooting around in my 'misc. code' folder, remembered how pretty it looked and decided to do something with it. I didn't end up keeping much of that old code, just some of the enemy animations really, the rest is new.
The game is now mostly using the same framework as Space Phallus, with some of the stats stuff from Scoregasm thrown in. In the game, you control one of three different ships, and you get to shoot your way through a fairly abstract underwater environment blowing away a variety of procedurally animated marine monsters. It's a single level score attack game, that takes about 5 minutes to complete (providing you don't die of course). Each ship has different weaponry etc. so that playing through with different ships will provide a different experience and degree of challenge etc. I've also got some achievements specific to each ship, and the game tracks your progress and ranks etc. for each ship separately. Also, it's fun :)
Charlie describes Irukandji as...
"A fun score attack shooter, set in an abstract underwater trench. You fly your ship against the flow of hundreds of amazing procedurally animated sea monsters, blasting your way to the final showdown – a Giant Enemy Crab!
As you play, you unlock a variety of different ships each with its own unique weaponry and play style which offers a different way to play the game. There are also 10 challenging achievements to attempt, and online scores for each ship."
Irukandji Features:
- Cool procedurally animated sea monsters!
- 6 unique ships to unlock
- Score attack gameplay
- Online scores for each ship
- 10 challenging achievements
- Giant enemy Crab!
You can visit his site where you can download the demo by clicking HERE. But better yet, you can help support Charlie by purchasing the game for whatever price you wish to pay ($1 min.) He also has a similar deal with his other titles so make sure to check them out as i have found all his games to be very fun and addictive.
