DOOM 3 BFG Edition Coming to Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
In a surprise move that took everyone by surprise, id Software has announced a new, remastered edition of DOOM 3, titled DOOM 3 BFG Edition, which will be arriving on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC platforms sometime this year. The re-release of the 2004 PC hit promises to bring enhanced visuals (though I can’t seem to see any of that in the trailer which was released), as well as a “silky smooth framerate” and 3D support for the PlayStation 3 and PC editions.
The DOOM 3 BFG Edition brings with it:
- DOOM (no Master Levels, apparently)
- DOOM 2
- DOOM 3
- DOOM 3: Resurrection of Evil
- “Lost Mission” – New single-player expansion for DOOM 3
- 3D support for PS3 and PC
In addition, id Software has released a trailer for the enhanced re-release, although as I mentioned before, I can’t say that I can see any significant changes to the game’s visuals, especially when compared to the maximum settings on the PC for the 2004 original. Though, at least console owners will be able to play the game at a nice solid 60fps, as the original Xbox port back in 2005 was limited to only 30fps. You can view the trailer below:
For people who own the game, it’s hard to see at this point whether or not it’s worth purchasing the game again for a new single-player expansion. On the bright side, at least the frustrating flashlight issue has finally been addressed, as it is now mounted on to your armor, meaning that you can actually shoot and see what’s in front of you now. It only took eight years to fix, but hey…better late than never!
