Video Namco Sets Phasers to Frag With New Star Trek Trailer

Star Trek Trailer Screencap

Last week, Namco held it’s Global Gamer’s Day event, and during that time they announced a new Star Trek game in the works for release on the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC in early 2013. With the passing days since the event itself, the media shown on that day have now been released to the public, and the trailer can be seen below:

Developed by Digital Extremes, the game takes the likenesses of the actors in J.J. Abrams’ recent Star Trek film reboot, and puts them in what appears to be an action-packed shootfest. Now, I’m not a Star Trek fan by any stretch of the imagination (not that I hate it or anything – it’s just that I haven’t invested much time into watching anything Star Trek), but the vibe seen in this trailer certainly seems a little off. In fact, is it just me, or is there a major Mass Effect vibe going on in the trailer? In between the black suits that Kirk and Spock are wearing, to the over-the-shoulder gunplay (as well as the guns themselves), one would be hard-pressed to not think they were looking at a Mass Effect trailer at first glance.

Now, I could be completely wrong about this since I’m not very knowledgeable on Star Trek, and perhaps this is all authentic to the franchise. Anyone care to correct me if I’m wrong here?
