Microsoft has announced today that the sequel to the destruction-oriented sandbox hit from 2007, Crackdown 2, will be hitting shelves in North America on July 6. In regards to the other territories, Crackdown 2 will release in Asia, Australia and New Zealand on July 8, and Europe will see the game arrive the day after on July 9.
Taking place 10 years after the original game, Crackdown 2 bring you back to Pacific City, which has been ravaged by both inner-city gang warfare and a mutant outbreak (players of the original Crackdown should be familiar with the mutants). As such, it is up to you, being an "Agent" of the city-funded Agency, to clean up the streets of all the chaos and bring order back to Pacific City.
Now, many people gave the original Crackdown a pretty bad rap; this essentially boils down to people only purchasing the original game due to it having an invitation to the Halo 3 multiplayer beta, and not giving the game a chance. It's a shame, however, as Crackdown was an extremely entertaining title, and allowed players to create unheard of amounts of chaos and destruction in a truly open-ended sandbox world. While most were too occupied with paying the Halo 3 beta at the time of the original game's release, Crackdown 2 has the bonus of not being attached to any other game so that players can fully enjoy the title. Adding on to the successful and extremely fun formula of Crackdown, Crackdown 2 brings with it the addition of 4-player co-op, higher levels of customization for players, new weapons and melee combos, and new skill abilities.
Ruffian Games has released a video documentary touching base on the expanded multiplayer aspects of Crackdown 2, which you can check out below:
