Officially Announced by SEGA at 3AM this morning, Project NeedleMouse is titled Sonic The Hedgehog 4: Episode 1.


I remember a while back when Sega announced that they were planing on revamping the Sonic franchise. Then in September of 2009 the announcement of Project Needle Mouse with a teaser trailer appeared everywhere. Then last month came the big countdown where Daily Sega would announce who is not a Playable character. One by one, each of Sonic's past sidekicks got a rejection mark until The Blue Blur was the only one left standing. This morning we finally got a teaser and info on one of Sega's biggest titles and this seems worth it for true Sonic Fans.


When Sonic was announced as the surviving playable character Sega went on to say, "Today, we are about to break the trend that has continued on for many years. To the thousands of you out there asking for a game where Sonic is the only playable character – rejoice. As of today, your wish has been granted. In Project Needlemouse, there will be no new characters – playable or otherwise. The focus will remain solely on one blue hedgehog."

Story:
Following the events of Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Sonic and Knuckles after the destruction of the Death Egg, Doctor Eggman "Robotnik in my world" has survived the previous encounter "Shocker" with our Hero and is preparing a new trap to finish off Sonic.

"Our Legendary hero returns! With the Death Egg finally destroyed, and Angel Island back in the sky, Sonic decides it's time to take a break and heads off to explore a new territory on his own. However unbeknownst to Sonic, Eggman has also survived their last encounter, and has begun taking measures to rid himself of our hero. Armed with his signature Speed, super Spin Dash - and powerful Homing Attack, Sonic is ready for an all-new adventure!"

Funny how everyone but Knuckles was announced as Rejected and under featured characters on Sega's page there's a locked spot.

It's a Download, NICE! Previously speculated and now official, Sonic 4 will be available for download on Xbox Live, the PlayStation Network and WiiWare. Subtitled Episode 1, I think we can expect installments to this series down the line. Sonic 4 looks like a HD remix of the original series. I know I will be downloading it once it is released. Till it's release this summer let me just say Welcome Back Sonic.
