Ubisoft has finally announced the long awaited PC version for the critically acclaimed Assassin's Creed 2. The PC version was delayed from its original November 2009 release date, and ever since PC gamers have been eagerly anticipating when they would get their hands on the game. Ubisoft has now given Assassin's Creed 2 a March 16th release date for PC gamers.

We also got some interesting information along side of the release date. To start Ubisoft has announced a Standard edition for both retail and digital outlets at an MSRP of $59.99. At first you may say, why the price hike? Well included in the game (or price i would say...) is the DLC missions of Battle of Forli and Bonfire of the Vanities pre-included. A digital-only Black edition is also due out as well, which promises “additional content” over the Standard edition for $64.99 but no other information is given in the press release.

Along side with the release date we now have official system requirements for game as well. They go as follows:

Minimum Configuration:

• SUPPORTED OS: Windows XP (32-64 bits) /Windows Vista (32-64 bits)/Windows 7 (32-64 bits)
• Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo 1.8 GHZ or AMD Athlon X2 64 2.4GHZ
• RAM: 1.5 GB Windows XP / 2 GB Windows Vista - Windows 7
• Video Card: 256 MB DirectX 9.0–compliant card with Shader Model 3.0 or higher (see supported list)
• Sound Card: DirectX 9.0 –compliant sound card
• DirectX Version: DirectX 9.0
• DVD-ROM: DVD-ROM dual-layer drive
• Hard Drive Space: 8 GB
• Peripherals Supported: Keyboard, mouse, optional controller

This product does not support Windows 98/ME/2000/NT

Recommended Configuration:

• Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 2.6 GHz or AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ or better
• Video Card: GeForce 8800 GT or ATI Radeon HD 4700 or better
• Sound: 5.1 sound card
• Peripherals: Keyboard, mouse, joystick optional (Xbox 360 Controller for Windows recommended)
• Supported Video Cards at Time of Release
• ATI RADEON X1950, HD 2000/3000/4000/5000 series
• NVIDIA GeForce 7/8/9/100/200 series

Assassin's Creed 2, interestingly enough, will be the second PC game in recent history to have a $60 price tag (CODMW2 being the first). Does the DLC bundled-in justify the price increase or do you think we are looking at a new era of higher priced PC games? Only time will tell I'm afraid.
