Nintendo’s Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 Launch Party Recap
It was nice to see that Nintendo’s Launch Party was still heavily attended after leaving the Javits Center Saturday night. Although tired and overwhelmed by the massively overcrowded convention (New York Comic Con), I just could not resist the festivities. As I entered through the corridor of the facility, I immediately thought this is bigger than anticipated. Anytime there are ice sculptures involved, it’s serious. I enter the main room and BOOM! Chicago based chiptune/rock band “I Fight Dragons” is on stage tearing up the crowd. A Pokemon photo booth stood near the entrance which plenty stood in line for. Last year’s NYCC Pikachu float could be seen hovering nearby the towering VIP section.
Lots of 3DSs available for advanced gameplay of Black Version 2 and Pokemon White Version 2 were available on site. Reliving those Pokemon Yellow gaming years was sweet. I will always appreciate the nostalgia attached to the Pokemon franchise. I’m grateful for the game’s barely changing format and formula. I believe that, as with other video game classics, the need for drastic change in the series is unnecessary. Yet, we can all agree that the list of Pokemon has gone bonkers. What’s funny, is that no matter how bonkers, they are memorable to the majority of the fans.
During a Trivia contest held at the event, several contestants were asked to name the Pokemon that appeared on screen. Contestants had to answer correctly 10 times in order to stay in the game. That didn’t prove very difficult for most who participated. One lucky girl claimed the prize which was an advanced copy of the game signed by the dev team. Pokemon will seemingly live longer than I originally expected and that is most certainly what I hope for. We had a great time at the event so thanks Nintendo for putting that together for the fans. Live long and live strong Pokemon!
