Capcom has released a new video showing off the recently announced Resident Evil.Net  online service (it’s free!) which aims to greatly enhance the overall Resident Evil 6  experience for owners of the game. You can view the overview video below:

In the case you didn’t get all of what was stated in the above video, here is an overview of what to expect with the service:

Brief list of Resident Evil.Net features:

  • Comprehensive stat tracking
    • Enemies killed
    • Weapons used
    • Medals earned
    • And more
  • Compare your game with those of friends and other Resident Evil 6  players around the world
  • Link your status with Twitter & Facebook
    • Share your latest achievements with friends
    • Receive alerts when your high score has been beaten
  • Free Smartphone App to launch alongside the service
    • Will support iOS, Android and Windows devices
  • Earn RE.Net points just by connecting to the service or entering events
    • Exchange points for cool items including additional Mercenaries costumes or figures to place in your very own Resident Evil diorama
  • Compete in regular organized events such as:
    • Join fellow gamers to defeat a set number of enemies
    • Aim for a high score in Mercenaries Mode
  • Champion Belt events
    • Compete in these special events to win the ultimate accolade, the Champion’s Belt
    • Can only be held by one player at any time
    • Players will need to defend their title or watch it fall to another player

A Champion’s Belt, huh? Personally, I’d say Resident Evil  veteran Chris Redfield deserves one for punching a giant boulder in Resident Evil 5 – not just anyone can pull off such a heroic feat.

On an additional note, Capcom has also announced that Resident Evil 6  has gone gold, meaning that development for the game is over. All that is left to do is manufacture the game discs for Xbox 360 and PS3 and ship them out to retailers (a PC release is still scheduled for a future date). As such, the projected release date of October 2, 2012 is a lock, outside of some catastrophic event occurring to deter this. If that happens, we can all blame Wesker and his devious plans for Complete Global Saturation.
