Video SEGA Model 2 Collection Headed to XBLA, PSN

SEGA Model 2 Collection

As we previously reported yesterday, SEGA’s mysterious Model 2 tease which was put out on Youtube was for an announcement after all. Most fan speculation was correct as well, seeing as how the five games teased in that initial video are headed to both Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network sometime in the near future. You can check out the official reveal video below:

So far, this collection of Model 2 arcade games has only been announced for Japan (though we are sure that will change soon), with Fighting Vipers, Sonic the Fighters  and Virtua Fighter 2  releasing sometime this year at a price point of 800 yen/800MS Points per game, with each game slated to include online multiplayer. One interesting tidbit that hardcore SEGA fans will be pleased to know is that for the first time in any official manner, Honey the Cat ( a scrapped/incomplete character that was only made available via hacking) will at long last be playable in Sonic the Fighters . Most may not know who Honey the Cat is, but longtime SEGA fans know, and it’s great to see that this kind of fanservice is being worked on for the fans.

Cyber Troopers Virtual On  and Virtua Striker  have not yet been given a solid release date, although we can only speculate that they will release sometime in early 2013. I personally can’t imagine these highly popular arcade games being relegated only to Japan, so expect SEGA of America to make an announcement regarding the domestic digital releases of these games soon.
