Silent Hill: Revelations 3D Bombs Silently

Heather and that creepy rabbit.

When it was announced that the Silent Hill sequel would be in 3D, I yelled “Nooo!” for a few minutes. After seeing the teaser trailer in theaters, I became somewhat hopeful. Despite my hopes, Silent Hill: Revelations was a complete disaster. Not only was it so in my opinion but according to the box office numbers. Despite performing better than “The Wachowskis’ Cloud Atlas”, the movie produced just but $8 Million on it’s opening weekend. Of course, we can blame Sandy for some of it’s failure. However, as Forbes quoted an analyst saying”…Hurricane Sandy can only be blamed for about 10 percent of the damage”.

Unlike the first Silent Hill movie, CGI effects were less impressive. When introduced, it was mostly rushed which felt like most parts of the movie. The characters and their relationships seemed nonsensical especially for those who have never played the game. There were lots of “Easter Eggs” hidden within the movie which I did appreciate. The actors resemble the video game characters which is definitely a plus. However, although more accurate, much less interesting this time around.

It seems that Samuel Hadidad (Producer of SH:R and the Resident Evil films as well) might have forgotten the primary intrigue of Silent Hill. It’s not just a place for Heather, it’s a place for James, Henry, Alex, etc. Shooting for a direct sequel is probably what placed the bullet in Hadida’s foot. And without a lasting impression, there’s almost no hope for a successful third installment. Despite the negative result, Hadida remains optimistic. So optimistic that he believes up to 3 new Silent Hill films will be released. It seems to me that a certain someone has been infected with the T-Virus.
