Valve Now Taking Steam Linux Beta Applications

valvelinux

In late September, Valve announced that it’s Linux-specialized team would be opening up their first beta run for Steam Linux client sometime in October, and, keeping to their word, that come has finally come. Valve has specifically requested “experienced” Linux users only for this first beta run, presumably because this first client version is liable to a skeleton program in comparison to other starter Linux clients. Less-veteran Linux users should be welcome to sign up for the next client beta.

Valve has noted that private external beta client will include:

  • Steam
  • One Valve game
  • Support for Ubuntu 12.04 and above

This client does not include support for any other Valve titles, or for Valve’s Big Picture mode. The beta will be limited to 1,000 users.

If interested, Linux users are encouraged to apply at the beta sign-up page.
